Dr. Justin Leifso

Biography

Justin Leifso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria. He received his PhD and MA from the University of Alberta as well as a BA (High Honours) from the University of Regina. His research explores the relationship between broad discursive formations and specific practices within Canadian politics. He focuses on areas such as Canadian public policy, neoliberalism, federalism, and governance in Canada. Leifso's academic work includes studies on the emergence of lean management practices in public sector organizations, the dynamics of parties and elections, and the influence of political identities in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Throughout his career, he has contributed to various publications discussing topics like the bureaucratic history of Canada and the emotional dimensions of politics in sports. In addition to his research, he teaches courses on Canadian politics, guiding students through complex methodologies and critical approaches. Leifso has presented at numerous conferences, sharing insights on neoliberal expertise, affective politics, and the political significance of energy narratives in Canada.
