Justin Meggitt is a Professor of the Study of Religion at the University of Cambridge. He received his first degree in Religious Studies from Newcastle University and pursued a Master of Theological Studies at Conrad Grebel College, University of Waterloo, Ontario. He obtained his doctorate in New Testament Studies at Cambridge, funded by the British Academy. Meggitt held a research fellowship at Westminster College, Oxford from 1994 to 1996 and was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at Jesus College, Cambridge from 1996 to 1999. He has held several positions at the University of Cambridge, including temporary university lecturer and college lecturer at Corpus Christi, and served as Senior Lecturer in the Study of Religion at the Institute of Continuing Education from 2004 to 2017 before transferring fully to the Faculty in 2017. He co-founded the Centre for the Critical Study of Apocalyptic and Millenarian Movements and is currently the Coordinator of the MPhil Pathway in Religion and Conflict. His research interests include the study of earliest Christianity, magic and miracle in history and culture, religious radicalism, and apocalyptic movements.
