Biography

Justin Parkhurst is an Associate Professor in Global Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has served as the co-director of the MSc in Health Policy, Planning, and Financing programme, as well as the inaugural Chair of the LSE Global Health Initiative. His research focuses on global health politics and policy, particularly on the political dimensions of evidence use in policy-making. Dr. Parkhurst led the Getting Research Into Policy in Health (GRIP-Health) programme, which was funded by the European Research Council and produced numerous open-access publications addressing the politics of evidence governance. He has also been involved in projects supported by the Wellcome Trust and DFID, aimed at enhancing the use of data in health decision-making in Africa, particularly related to malaria and HIV/AIDS. In 2025, he will lead a programme entitled ‘Systems Evidence Improve Health Policy Africa’ (SEIHPA), examining institutional arrangements for scientific evidence in health policy advise across Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, and Rwanda. Dr. Parkhurst teaches various courses on health policy and has expertise in areas such as health policy politics, HIV/AIDS, maternal health, and health systems development.
