Biography

Justin Romberg is the Schlumberger Professor and Associate Chair at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. He also serves as the Associate Director for the Center for Machine Learning. Romberg earned his B.S.E.E. in 1997, M.S. in 1999, and Ph.D. in 2004 from Rice University, Houston, Texas. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Applied Computational Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology from Fall 2003 to Fall 2006. His research interests include signal processing, machine learning, optimization, and applied probability. He has made significant contributions in areas such as imaging inverse problems, data compression, multiscale geometrical representations, and sparse approximation. Romberg has received several honors, including the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award in 2008, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2009, and the Packard Fellowship in 2009. He was named Rice University's Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus in 2010 and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
