Biography

Justin Slater is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Guelph. He completed his Ph.D. in early 2023 in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining Guelph, he worked as a statistical consultant at Cytel Inc. and as an analyst at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. Justin holds an M.Sc. in Statistics from Queen’s University and an Honours B.Sc. in Mathematics and Statistics from Dalhousie University. His research interests span a wide spectrum of subfields including biostatistics, data science, and epidemiology. Justin focuses on developing statistical models to understand infectious disease spread, and he aims to create statistical analogues to differential equation models. He is also involved in spatio-temporal analytics, utilizing cellphone-derived mobility data for infectious disease modeling. Additionally, he has a keen interest in Bayesian statistics, specifically in prior elicitation, and aims to improve meta-analytic adaptive clinical trial methods that combine evidence from various study designs.
