Biography

Justin Stover is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval Latin at the University of Edinburgh. He obtained his undergraduate degree in classics from a small college in Virginia, where he had the privilege of studying the arcana of Roman agrarian writers, medieval angelology, and Latin works from the Counter-Reformation era. He pursued his doctorate in medieval Latin at Harvard University, where he wrote his dissertation on the influence of Plato in the Latin West during the twelfth century. After completing his doctorate, he held a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Souls College, University of Oxford, before joining the University of Edinburgh in early 2017. His teaching includes topics in Latin literature at the undergraduate level and elementary Latin at the postgraduate level. His research investigates the dissemination of written heritage from antiquity in manuscript form during the post-classical period, focusing on how classical texts were read, reused, and recopied in the medieval world, and the transition of these texts into the age of print. His past work includes new attributions and datings of Latin philosophical texts transmitted during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, including previously unpublished works by Apuleius from late antiquity.
