Biography

Justine Lloyd is a cultural sociologist at Macquarie University. Her research focuses on the relationships between spatial social change and cultural histories in media and urban space. She has published work in the areas of transnationalism and border theory. Lloyd serves as an Initial Reviewer for the Faculty of Arts Human Research Ethics Committee and is the Acting Director of the Centre for Media History and Gender Studies at the university. She is also deeply interested in community media and has been involved as a board member of a Newcastle-based media collective, the Octapod, from 2005 to 2010. Additionally, she is a joint editor of the international journal 'Space and Culture.' Lloyd teaches several courses including SOCI3050 Activism and Social Change and SOCI3015 Urban Century: Movement, Cities, and Space. She has led a variety of projects exploring the power of public spaces to connect communities, revealing the critical intersection of social dynamics and urban environments.
