Biography

University Professor Jutta Brunnée is the Dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and holds the James M. Tory Dean’s Chair. She began her academic career at McGill University’s Faculty of Law from 1990 to 1995 and moved to the University of British Columbia's Peter Allard School of Law, serving there until 2000. Since August 2000, she has been a part of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where she held the Metcalf Chair in Environmental Law from 2002 to 2020. Brunnée's administrative roles have included Associate Dean of Graduate Studies on several occasions and Interim Dean in 2014. She was appointed University Professor in 2020, the highest academic honor at the University. Her research interests encompass Environmental Law, International Law and Policy, and Legal Theory, with a specific focus on Public International Law, International Environmental Law, and the complexities of international legal practices. Brunnée has published extensively in her field, contributing to several notable journals and scholarly collections.
