Biography

Professor K. Dane Wittrup is currently the Carbon P. Dubbs Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in the Department of Biological Engineering. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in June 1984. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Biology from the California Institute of Technology in 1988. Wittrup then worked briefly at Amgen before becoming an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989. In September 1999, he joined MIT, where he is also an Associate Director at the Koch Institute. His research focuses on developing biopharmaceuticals, particularly cancer immunotherapy, including the design of therapeutic proteins and understanding protein interactions at the molecular level.
