Chan Ka Nin has received numerous national and international composition awards, including the Béla Bartók International Composers' Competition, Barlow International Competitions, and Jean Chalmers Awards for Musical Composition. He has won a total of 40 composition awards, and his works have been performed across North America, Europe, and Asia by ensembles such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, Kodaly Quartet, Purcell Quartet, and Thirteen Strings Ottawa. Chan has served on the board of the Canadian League of Composers and has had works published by Editio Musica Budapest, Hinshaw Music, and Jaymar Music. His recent compositions can be found on six CDs featuring artists such as Esprit, Ottawa Winds, Amici, Rosemarie Landry, and Lawrence Cherney. He taught at Indiana University before joining the University of Toronto in 1982.
