Dr. Ka Lee

Biography

Ka Yee Lee is the David Lee Shillinglaw Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago in the Department of Chemistry. Her research primarily focuses on biophysics and includes investigations into protein-lipid interactions, particularly in relation to diseases such as Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. Lee's work involves using microscopy and scattering techniques to study the interactions between lipids and proteins in model systems that mimic real-life biomembrane structures. In particular, her research explores the structure-function relationships of lung surfactants, which play a critical role in respiratory health. Furthermore, Lee investigates the aggregation processes of Amyloid-beta peptides, which are implicated in Alzheimer's disease. Throughout her career, she has held various academic positions and has contributed significantly to the field of physical chemistry, with numerous publications in high-impact journals. Lee has received multiple accolades for her work, including being named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the American Physical Society.
