Kacie Lucchini Butcher is a Public Historian whose work is dedicated to building empathy and advancing social justice. She has experience working with museums and community organizations, helping communities reclaim their narratives through collaborative public history projects. Her expertise includes engaging marginalized communities, historical partnerships, and creating community-centered archives that foreground social justice. She focuses on the history connected to the present, exploring and questioning systems of inequity and oppression. Previously, she co-curated 'Owning Racism Housing Minneapolis', an exhibit that explores the history of racist housing policy and its lasting effects. This exhibit received the National Council on Public History 2019 Student Project Award and the American Association for State and Local History 2019 Award for Excellence. In 2018, she was awarded the Josie R. Johnson Human Rights and Social Justice Award by the University of Minnesota’s Office of Equity & Diversity. Kacie is actively involved in the public history community, hosting events, engaging in community conversations, attending trainings, and editing publications. She currently serves as the co-chair of the Membership Committee at the National Council on Public History. Kacie graduated in 2019 with a Master’s degree in Heritage Studies and Public History from the University of Minnesota.
