Biography

Kai Hormann is a full professor at the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2002. Following his doctorate, he spent years as a postdoctoral research fellow at Caltech, Pasadena, and CNR in Pisa, before joining the Clausthal University of Technology as an assistant professor in 2004. He was a visiting professor at Freie Universität Berlin in the winter term of 2007/2008 and became an associate professor at USI in 2009. In 2018, he served as a visiting professor at NTU in Singapore. His research interests focus on the mathematical foundations, geometry processing algorithms, and applications in computer graphics and related fields. He has contributed significantly to the field through over 100 highly cited papers and serves as an associate editor for several journals. He was awarded the John Gregory Award in June 2024 for his fundamental contributions and lifetime impact in geometric modeling. His interdisciplinary research in digital geometry processing integrates concepts from computer science, applied mathematics, and engineering to enhance the acquisition, reconstruction, optimization, editing, and simulation of geometric objects.
