Biography

Kai Vogelsang is a Professor of Sinology at the University of Hamburg since April 2008. He specializes in Chinese historiography, social structure, and semantics, with a focus on the history of China. Before his current position, he was a Heisenberg Fellow of the German Research Foundation and a guest researcher at the Kyoto City University of Arts from 2006 to 2008. He completed his habilitation in the fields of Sinology and Manchurian Studies in 2004 and obtained his PhD in Sinology from the University of Hamburg in 1997. He has held academic appointments as a research assistant in the Institute of Sinology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 1999 to 2006. His research interests include Chinese conceptions of history and the socio-historical context of classical texts. Vogelsang has published several works, including monographs on classical Chinese literature and history, and has contributed to various academic journals. He is also an editor for the journal Oriens Extremus and a board member of the Hamburger Sinological Society.
