Biography

Dr. Kai Wen is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton specializing in Offshore Geotechnics. His primary research interests include offshore seabed-structure interaction, smart seabed characterization, and computational geomechanics through methods such as finite element modeling and particle finite element modeling. In his role, Dr. Wen leads the Southampton part of the ROBOCONE project funded by EPSRC-SFI, where he collaborates with eminent professors including Dave White and Susan Gourvenec. He is also involved with the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair Centre of Excellence for Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering. Dr. Wen completed his Bachelor's degree at Tianjin University in China, followed by a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2019, and recently earned his PhD in Offshore Geotechnics from Imperial College London in 2023. Over eight years of research experience, he has developed expertise in optimized design for offshore foundations and pile installation under high-cycle loading conditions. He has contributed significantly to the field with 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to review papers for leading international scientific publications. Additionally, Dr. Wen has received the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship for the year 2024.
