Biography

Kaka Ma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 2010, following a B.S. in the same discipline from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2006. His research focuses on powder-based synthesis processing for metals and ceramics, additive manufacturing techniques including laser directed energy deposition, and field assisted sintering technology (FAST). Dr. Ma's work extends to materials for energy conversion, encompassing thermionic and thermoelectric materials, and the study of materials' performance in harsh environments, such as ultrahigh temperature and hypersonic conditions. He is also interested in sustainability in materials engineering and has been recognized with awards including the TMS Light Metals/Extraction & Processing Subject Award from the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society in 2020.
