Biography

Kalu U. E. Ogbureke is a tenured professor in Oral Maxillofacial/Head Neck Pathology at UTHealth Houston (UTSD). He chaired the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences from October 2012 to December 2019. Ogbureke holds a BDS from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s degree in Medical Science from the University of Glasgow, a Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) in Molecular/Oral Biology from Harvard University, and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Suffolk University Law School. He is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in the United Kingdom. His clinical interests include diagnostic Oral Maxillofacial Histopathology, Head Neck Pathology, and Clinical Oral Medicine. Ogbureke has received numerous accolades, including the 2007 Neal W. Chilton Fellowship in Clinical Research and the Outstanding Faculty Award from Augusta University in 2012. He served as a Fulbright Scholar in Nigeria and is frequently invited to speak on the interface of law and medicine. His research focuses on the role of sibling family proteins in oral cancer precursors and is funded by major grants like the NIDCR. Ogbureke has made significant contributions to forensic investigations and serves on multiple professional boards.
