Biography

Kamal M. F. Itani, MD, is a Professor at Boston University in the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Surgery and General Surgery. He completed his medical education at the American University of Beirut, followed by a residency in surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a research fellowship at Duke University. Prior to his tenure at Boston University, he held the position of Associate Professor at the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and served as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Baylor College. He also worked as Chief of General Surgery at Houston VA Medical Center. Dr. Itani's clinical interests include surgical infections and abdominal wall reconstruction, with a focused research agenda on improving health services and surgical outcomes. He is also an accomplished author with over 300 peer-reviewed articles. Additionally, Dr. Itani has held leadership roles in several surgical organizations, including past President of the Association of VA Surgeons and past chair of the Surgical Quality Data Use Group at the VA Surgical Quality Improvement Program. He is a current governor of the Americas Hernia Society and a council member of the Massachusetts chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Itani's accolades include numerous national and international awards, and he is actively involved as a reviewer for various medical and surgical journals.
