Dr. Kamal Mahtani

Biography

Kamal Mahtani is a nationally and internationally recognised Senior Academic GP and Professor of Evidence-Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford. He has made significant contributions to academic research, teaching, and leadership, serving as a Principal Investigator and group lead. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, Kamal has attracted substantial research funding and leads a group focused on understanding and improving the evidence base for service innovations in primary care. His work includes addressing workforce roles in general practice and the creation of the Oxford Social Prescribing Research Network. As a committed leader in postgraduate education, he is the inaugural Director of the University of Oxford’s MSc in Global Healthcare Leadership. Kamal is also dedicated to leadership development within academic primary care, having supported the growth of over 100 leaders in the field. He has held various prestigious roles, including being a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and acting as a national-level leader on committees for health technology assessment and clinical research funding. Kamal advocates for underrepresented groups in academia and continues to facilitate change through his research and teaching, all while remaining active in his role as an NHS GP and family man.
