Dr. Kamna Balhara

Biography

Kamna Balhara, M.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, where she also serves as the associate program director of the Emergency Medicine Residency. Dr. Balhara has a diverse background, having graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her residency at the same institution, where she was also the chief resident. She possesses a keen interest in health humanities and medical education, with a focus on equity in clinical environments and addressing disparities in access to care both domestically and globally. Dr. Balhara has authored several publications related to graduate medical education and social determinants of health and has received funding from notable organizations such as the AAMC and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Furthermore, she has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Early Educator Award. An active participant in national and international conferences, Dr. Balhara is also involved with the National Health Humanities Consortium and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Her teaching and research continue to impact the field significantly, with ongoing efforts to develop tools and resources for educators aiming to integrate humanities into healthcare education.
