Professor Dr. Kandis Gilliard Abdulaziz

Biography

Kandis Leslie Gilliard-AbdulAziz directs the Sustainable Lab, primarily focusing on developing novel materials for sustainable catalytic processes aimed at low-carbon chemical production. Her primary research involves novel materials for CO2 sequestration and utilization, employing an interdisciplinary approach that combines chemistry, material science, and chemical and environmental engineering. A former Gabilan Assistant Professor at the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California, Gilliard-AbdulAziz previously led the Sustainable Lab at the University of California, Riverside from 2018 to 2023. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional background includes roles as a forensic scientist with the Philadelphia Police Department and as a refinery chemist at Sunoco Chemicals in Philadelphia.
