Kankar Bhattacharya obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 1993. His research focuses on power system economics and operations planning, with particular emphasis on improving efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, he was awarded the 2024 IEEE Canada P.D. Ziogas Electric Power Silver Medal. Dr. Bhattacharya has also received numerous accolades for his academic contributions, including the ECE Department's Research Excellence Award and the Faculty of Engineering Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision. He is a Fellow of IEEE and the Canadian Academy of Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario.
