Dr. Kanwaljeet Anand

Biography

Kanwaljeet S. Anand is a prominent Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has a distinguished background in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Perioperative Pain Medicine, with extensive training from the M.G.M. Medical College in India and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. His post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School molded him into a leader in pediatric pain management research. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Anand has pioneered the scientific rationale for pain perception in neonates and infants, leading groundbreaking research in pain assessment and management techniques. His work has significantly influenced how pain is perceived and treated in early life, addressing the long-term impacts of pain exposure in newborns. He has received numerous accolades, including the Dr. Michael Blacow Award and the Jeffrey Lawson Award from the American Pain Society. Dr. Anand also founded the Harmony Health Clinic, which addresses interfaith conflicts in Arkansas, highlighting his commitment to community service. Currently, he directs the Pain/Stress Neurobiology Lab at Stanford, leading innovative clinical trials aimed at improving pain management and outcomes for critically ill children.
