Biography

Kara Blackburn is a Senior Lecturer in Managerial Communication at the MIT Sloan School of Management and an affiliate of MIT Sloan's Leadership Center. She has co-created and teaches the course 'Leading the Way: Perspectives for Advancing Equity and Inclusion,' which addresses individual skills and organizational strategies for enhancing equity and inclusion in workplaces. Additionally, she conducts a course titled 'Tough Conversations: Science, Strategies & Skills,' equipping students with frameworks for navigating difficult discussions at work. Blackburn also runs the accompanying Communications Lab for full-time MBA students and teaches in MIT Sloan’s Executive Education programs. Over the years, she has mentored teams in the Global Entrepreneurship Lab (G-Lab) and the China India Lab, while leading study tours to South America and Africa. She has traveled extensively on behalf of MIT, visiting various countries including Brazil, Argentina, and China. Blackburn's teaching has been recognized with several awards, including the Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching at MIT Sloan in 2019, the Teaching with Digital Technology Award in 2020, and the Teacher of the Year award for the 2022-2023 academic year.
