Kara Layton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the University of Guelph, and a Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on applying genomic tools to advance the understanding of invertebrate diversity and the evolutionary and ecological processes that generate this diversity. Layton is particularly interested in using phylogenomics to resolve evolutionary relationships within molluscs, detecting and characterizing the role of introgression in adaptation, identifying the genomic basis of color pattern variation in shell-less molluscs, and understanding the role of adaptive genomic variation in response to climate change. Her lab welcomes members with diverse interests and is currently accepting MSc and PhD students.
