Biography

Karel Devriendt is a Research Fellow at the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford. His research is focused on the applications of graph theory, particularly in the areas of discrete curvature and discrete geometry. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford, where he studied concepts of effective resistance in graph geometry. After his doctoral studies, he undertook postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig and Dresden, concentrating on matroids, tropical geometry, and algebraic statistics. Karel is currently involved in exploring applications in network epidemics and the analysis of social networks through the lens of neural network geometry.
