Dr. Karen Eggleston

Biography

Karen Eggleston is a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and a Professor of Health Policy at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she also directs the Stanford Asia Health Policy Program. She holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University and has significant educational credentials, including MA degrees in Economics and Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii and a BA in Asian Studies, graduating as valedictorian from Dartmouth College. Eggleston's research primarily focuses on the roles of government and market dynamics in the health sector, with a specialized emphasis on health policy across Asia, particularly in China, India, Japan, and Korea. She has collaborated with various organizations, including the World Bank, on health system reforms and has been involved in numerous research projects analyzing healthcare productivity and the economic effects of demographic changes. Eggleston has earned several accolades for her work, including faculty research awards and grants aimed at improving health systems in Asia.
