Biography

Karen Farris received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and her doctorate from the University of Michigan. Her training spans pharmacy, social psychology, and health behavior. Her research and teaching focus on social theories examining how individuals manage medications and how pharmacists influence medication use in oncology and primary care settings. She has studied medication adherence and the management of adverse effects, quantifying the impact of pharmacists' care on medication adherence and health outcomes. Farris trained at the University of Michigan from 1990 to 1993 and returned in 2011 as the Charles R. Walgreen III Professor of Pharmacy. She collaborates with researchers to improve medication adherence in oncology and primary care, and has been active in educating inter-professional students to reduce health disparities.
