Biography

Karen Gedenk has been the Chair of Marketing and Pricing at Universität Hamburg since 2010, leading the Business School. She has previously held full professorships at Goethe University Frankfurt from 2000 to 2004 and the University of Cologne from 2004 to 2010. Gedenk studied Business Administration at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, ESC Lyon in France, and Northwestern University in the USA. She obtained her PhD 'Habilitation' from the University of Kiel under the guidance of Professor Dr. h.c. Sönke Albers. Additionally, she has served as a Visiting Scholar at prestigious institutions including the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, INSEAD in France, the University of Vienna, and the University of Technology in Sydney. Gedenk teaches courses focused on Pricing, Promotions, and Marketing Research. Her research is centered on the empirical effects of pricing and promotions, utilizing market data and experimental surveys. She collaborates with various companies, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods and media sectors. Her work has been published in major journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, and International Journal of Research in Marketing.
