Dr. Karen Gibbs

Biography

Karen E. Gibbs is an Associate Professor of Surgery specializing in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Yale University. With a focus on advancing complex integrated approaches to weight loss and the management of obesity-related diseases, she has had a significant impact on gastrointestinal surgery. Dr. Gibbs has held prestigious positions, including Chair of Surgery at Yale New Haven Health – Bridgeport Hospital. She has an extensive background, having served as the Associate Chair of the Department of Surgery at Northwell Health and as Chief of General Surgery where she implemented quality improvement initiatives. Dr. Gibbs is board-certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in minimally invasive bariatric surgery. A graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, she completed her residency at Montefiore Medical Center and has garnered recognition for her expertise in laparoscopic procedures. Her clinical research concentrates on the clinical outcomes of minimally invasive bariatric surgery, emphasizing the importance of lifelong patient follow-up and a supportive care team to ensure successful weight management for patients.
