Biography

Karen Gibson is a Senior Lecturer in Physiology in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She holds degrees including MB BS, BMedSc, and PhD. As an Education Focused Academic, she teaches physiology to medical science students with a special focus as the Phase 1 Convenor for the BMed/MD program and as the course convenor for PHSL3221 Endocrine, Reproductive Developmental Physiology. Her research interests are further informed by recent epidemiological evidence linking quality of life in utero with the development of adult diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Dr. Gibson's research also delves into renal and cardiovascular development, including the renin-angiotensin system, and how lifestyle factors can influence the development of hypertension and renal disease.
