Biography

Karen Gillett has extensive post-registration clinical experience in cancer and palliative care nursing, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Cancer Nursing at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She spent nine years as a Lecturer in Cancer Nursing at City University London, where she developed a leading variety of post-qualification cancer and palliative care modules. Since joining King’s College London in 2009, she has contributed to various pre-registration and post-qualification modules, currently delivering palliative care modules in collaboration with St Christopher’s Hospice, Sydenham, London. Gillett is also an experienced supervisor at both BSc and PhD levels and currently serves as the chair of the ethics subcommittee for health in King’s College London, as well as a member of the College Research Ethics Committee. Her academic credentials include an MSc in Social Research from the University of Surrey (1995), a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies (Education) from South Bank University (2000), and a PhD in Educational Research from Lancaster University (2007). In 2013, she became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has a strong interest in qualitative research related to palliative care.
