Biography

Karen Keeshan is a Reader in Leukaemia Research at the University of Glasgow's School of Cancer Sciences. She graduated with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from University College Cork, Ireland in 1998 and completed her PhD in 2002 on apoptosis in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. Following her doctoral training, she conducted postdoctoral research in the USA, notably in Prof. Bruno Calabretta’s laboratory at Kimmel Cancer Center, where she focused on signaling pathways in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. Keeshan has received multiple awards, including the prestigious President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (PIYRA) in 2008. In her research career, she has established a Leukaemia research group and has moved to the University of Glasgow in 2012. Her research interests focus on Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, particularly in identifying specifications of pediatric diseases to improve therapeutic strategies. Keeshan is actively involved in mentoring students and has a strong commitment to clinical translation of research findings.
