Biography

Karen Olivo is widely known for her acting work that spans 25 years in Broadway and television. In Spring 2020, she transitioned her teaching to refocus her energy on the future of the art form. At the collegiate level, she facilitates workshops that enhance interpersonal communication, classroom culture, and critical analysis of the Musical Theater canon, alongside an ethos of education that reshapes the mentoring of artists privately. Karen co-created the Mosaic Training program, a bi-annual 8-week workshop that supports young artists from underrepresented identities, fostering community and engagement in training at no cost, in partnership with Project Broadway. She is actively involved with various grassroots organizations, including the New York Civil Liberties Union, Pay Equity Standards, Industry Standard Group, and Broadway Racial Justice, providing her support for initiatives that promote equity in the arts.
