Biography

Kara Shaw is a Professor and the Academic Director of the Transformative Climate Action Certificate at the University of Victoria's School of Environmental Studies. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University, obtained in 1999. Her research interests encompass Political Ecology, Energy Transitions, Environmental Politics, Global/Local Relations, Climate Action, and Resistance. Currently, she focuses on the social and political dynamics of responses to climate change, paying particular attention to energy transitions that support diverse and resilient communities. She has previously engaged with feminist theory, international relations, Indigenous politics, and environmental politics in her research. Shaw has co-edited a book titled 'Political Space: Reading Global Clayoquot Sound' and contributed to 'Indigeneity in Political Theory: Sovereignty Limits.'
