Biography

Kara Shaw is a Professor and Academic Director of the Transformative Climate Action Certificate at the University of Victoria's School of Environmental Studies. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University, completed in 1999. Her areas of expertise include Political Ecology, Energy Transitions, Environmental Politics, and Climate Action, with a focus on the social and political dynamics of community responses to climate change. Shaw's research interests encompass Indigenous-led energy transitions and critical pedagogies. She has previously engaged with feminist theory, international relations, and environmental politics. Notable book publications include 'Political Space: Reading Global Clayoquot Sound' and 'Indigeneity in Political Theory: Sovereignty and the Limits of the Political,' both emphasizing her commitment to exploring sustainable practices and social justice.
