Karice Mitchell is a photo-based installation artist whose practice utilizes found imagery and digital manipulation to engage with issues of representation, the black female body, pornography, and popular culture. Her work seeks to re-contextualize pre-existing images and reimagine the possibilities of black womanhood and sexuality, particularly through the lens of the detached white gaze and patriarchy. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University in 2019 and completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. Karice currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory, where she continues to explore these critical themes in her teaching and artistic endeavors.
