Biography

Dr. Hammamji is a specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon focusing on medical and surgical retina. He is an assistant professor at the Center Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and is part of the ocular oncology team, responsible for complex surgeries associated with eye cancer. His areas of expertise include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and vitreoretinal interface diseases (macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and vitreomacular traction). Dr. Hammamji completed his medical training at McGill University and his ophthalmology residency at the Université de Montréal. He then pursued a 2-year fellowship in retinal surgery and ocular oncology at the University of Calgary and the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to research and development within his specialty, serving as a researcher at the CHUM Research Center (CRCHUM). He has made numerous scientific presentations locally and internationally and has received several awards and scholarships for his work. Dr. Hammamji is also the head of the Retina Division at the Université de Montréal and the director of the vitreoretinal surgery fellowship program.
