Biography

Karim S. Karim is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He has secured more than $15M in research grant funding and has trained over 40 graduate students at both the PhD and MASc levels. With over 250 publications and 50 patents to his name, Karim is also the founder and Chief Technology Officer of KA Imaging, a University of Waterloo spinoff company that specializes in innovative X-ray detector systems for medical, veterinary, and industrial markets. Since developing novel imaging devices and systems in 1998, he has supported the founding of multiple startups over the past decades. His pioneering work in 'color' X-ray innovations aims to replace traditional black and white medical X-rays globally and includes contributions to ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for mobile phones and tablets.
