Professor Karima Djabali's research focuses on the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of premature aging, particularly Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). She aims to develop preventive strategies to slow the aging process and age-related diseases. Her major research interests involve stem cell research and the significance of tissue regeneration in the aging process. After completing her studies in biochemistry at Université Paris 7, she pursued doctoral studies in biology at College de France with Professor Gros, and worked at Rockefeller University under Professor Guenter Blobel, a Nobel Prize laureate. She had postdoctoral training at EMBL Heidelberg and served as a research scientist at CNRS before becoming an assistant professor at Columbia University in New York City in 2004. In 2009, she joined the Department of Dermatology and Allergy and the Central Institute for Medical Technology. Over the years, she has successfully acquired funding for multiple projects and has received several prestigious awards, including the Christine Kühne Center Allergy Research Education Fellowship and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowship.
