Biography

Karin Hellner received her medical degree from Humboldt-University of Berlin in 2003 and completed her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. She spent four years as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, USA, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of human papillomavirus (HPV) associated carcinogenesis and drug discovery strategies for cervical cancer. In 2011, she joined the University of Oxford where she serves as an Associate Professor in Women's Health and leads the Oxford HPV Research Group. Her clinical interests lie in HPV and HPV associated cervical disease, and she serves as the lead consultant for Oxford's Colposcopy Service. Hellner is involved in multiple national and international clinical trials and is an executive board member of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP). She participates in educational activities as a course facilitator and examiner for the national colposcopy accreditation course, and is a member of the OxCODE operational group, which focuses on early cancer detection and precision prevention.
