Biography

Karin James is a Senior Instructor in the Department of German and Slavic Studies at the University of Manitoba. Since joining the university in 2006, she has focused on teaching German language, translation, and culture. Before her tenure at the University of Manitoba, Karin served as the principal of the MGLE German School in Winnipeg and taught adult high school courses. Additionally, she held a visiting instructor position in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Winnipeg. Karin has extensive experience as a certified translator for various government agencies and private enterprises, incorporating authentic approaches to her translation courses. Beyond her teaching duties, she serves as a Provincial Examiner for German under the Manitoba Department of Education and has been an active member of the Examination Committee for the “Sprachdiplom,” which is offered by Germany's Central Agency for Schools Abroad. Her research interests include foreign language acquisition, teaching methodologies based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and translation between German and English.
