Biography

Karin Pfeffer is a Full Professor at the University of Twente in the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation. She holds a chair in Infrastructuring Urban Futures and specializes in the intersection of social sciences and geographic information systems. With extensive experience in urban areas, economic and social development, and governance, she focuses on metropolitan area organizations. Prior to her current role, she served as an Associate Professor and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Human Geography and Planning at the University of Amsterdam. Karin obtained her PhD in Physical Geography from Utrecht University and is vice-dean of research for the Faculty of ITC from 2020 to 2024. Her academic contributions include participation in the Urban Studies Foundation in Glasgow and memberships in the Academy Territorial Development Leibnitz Association and NWO Wetenschappelijk Adviescollege. She is actively involved in teaching and has developed courses related to spatial knowledge management and global challenges in local action.
