Karin Roelofs investigates the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying stress and stress-related behavior. She studies how decision-making processes are affected by stress in healthy individuals as well as in professionals and patients at increased risk for stress-related disorders, such as anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. As a professor of Experimental Psychopathology at Radboud University, she leads the Affective Neuroscience Group at the Donders Institute and focuses on stress-resilience and vulnerability mechanisms. Her research employs a range of neuroimaging techniques, combined with neuromodulation interventions to study how emotions influence decision-making. She is a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received several European and national research grants for her work, including ERC grants and collaborative funding from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. Additionally, Roelofs is a registered GZ psychologist and continues to pursue innovative research to enhance understanding and treatment of stress-related disorders.
