Biography

Karina van Dalen-Oskam has been an endowed professor of Computational Literary Studies at the University of Amsterdam since March 1, 2012. She teaches courses in Computational Literary Studies and is actively involved in the Netherlands Research School Literary Studies (OSL) at the Huizinga Institute. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she conducts workshops on quantitative methods in the Department of Neerlandistiek and supervises theses and dissertations. Her recent publication, Riddle Literary Quality: A Computational Approach, was released by Amsterdam University Press in June 2023 as part of her research project that ran from 2012 to 2019, which focused on measuring literary quality through computational methods. Previously, a longer version of this work was published in 2021 under the title Het raadsel literatuur: literaire kwaliteit meetbaar? Karina also serves as a full-time research leader in Computational Literary Studies at the Huygens Institute for the History of Culture in the Netherlands, an institute affiliated with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Her work emphasizes the intersection of digital technology and literary analysis, contributing significantly to the field of Computational Humanities.
