Biography

Karine Toupin April is an Associate Professor at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She has completed her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and has pursued graduate and postgraduate training in public health and epidemiology. Her research expertise spans chronic disease management, complementary medicine, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), shared decision making, and patient engagement. She has conducted research in both pediatric and adult rheumatology and has experience in developing systematic reviews, PROMs, clinical practice guidelines, and decision support interventions focused on self-management. One of her main projects is the JIA Option Map, a web-based decision support intervention designed to help youth with juvenile arthritis and their families make informed pain management choices. Toupin April has secured funding from notable organizations including the Arthritis Society and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Her role extends to being the editor for the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group and chairing the OMERACT shared decision-making working group. She has been teaching occupational therapy to medical students at the University of Ottawa since 2008 and actively participates in various committees supporting French language services and medical humanities.
