Professor Dr. Karl Andriessen

Biography

Karl Andriessen is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales in the School of Psychiatry. He has a diverse academic background with a PhD from UNSW and a master's degree in suicidology from Griffith University. His primary research interests focus on suicide prevention, including bereavement after suicide and community mental health strategies. He pays particular attention to railway suicide prevention and the role of sports events and helplines in these contexts. Throughout his career, he has received several accolades, including the Outstanding International Health Alumnus Year Award in 2017 from Griffith University, as well as various recognitions from the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention. He has been involved in significant research projects, such as the NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, demonstrating his commitment to addressing mental health and suicide-related issues.
