Dr. Karl Deisseroth

Biography

Karl Deisseroth is the D. H. Chen Professor of Bioengineering and Psychiatry at Stanford University and an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and earned both an MD and a PhD in Neuroscience from Stanford University. He has completed postdoctoral training and medical internship, as well as an adult psychiatry residency at Stanford, where he is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Deisseroth specializes in affective disorders and autism-spectrum disorders, utilizing medications and neural stimulation in his practice. He continues to work as a practicing psychiatrist while pursuing his research interests, contributing to advancements in neurotechnology and understanding the brain's mechanisms.
