Biography

Karl Grenier is a pediatric perinatal pathologist who is double board certified in Anatomical Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Pathology. He completed his PhD in neuroscience and cellular biology at the Montreal Neurological Institute, focusing on mitochondrial import and autophagy, and obtained his MDCM degree from McGill University. Dr. Grenier completed his residency in Anatomical Pathology at McGill University and a fellowship in pediatric perinatal pathology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia before joining the Pathology faculty at McGill University as an Assistant Professor. His current research includes developing a placental pathology platform aimed at identifying new histopathological and molecular correlates that predict fetal and maternal disease, improving the diagnosis and classification of neonatal and juvenile lower gastrointestinal tract disorders, and leveraging mass spectrometry and deep learning technologies for renal pathology subtyping and clinical research purposes. He is also focused on novel approaches to identify cryptic causes of death in pediatric autopsies.
