Dr. Karl Herweg

Biography

Karl Herweg is an Associated Senior Research Scientist at the Centre Development Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern. His professional focus is on transformative education, with an emphasis on sustainable land management and soil conservation. He has extensive experience in the integration of geography concepts and methods to tackle interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research challenges. Herweg is involved in several projects aimed at monitoring and evaluating the impact of sustainable land management practices, notably through the Soil Conservation Research Programme (SCRP) in Ethiopia and as part of the Management Centre of the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South. His field experience spans Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, contributing to a robust understanding of diverse environmental contexts. In addition to his research, he advocates for the dissemination of information through user-friendly illustrations and publications, making scientific knowledge accessible to a broader audience.
